In June 2024, the world witnessed a significant milestone in energy innovation — the successful grid connection of the world’s first large-scale semi-solid-state battery energy storage system (BESS) power plant. The 100MW/200MWh lithium iron phosphate energy storage project in Zhejiang Province, China, marks a breakthrough that significantly enhances the safety, flexibility, and resilience of the East China power grid.
Pilot Energy is proud to have supplied the BESS PCS (Power Conversion Systems) for this pioneering project. Leveraging our deep technical expertise, we delivered 25 sets of 5MW BESS PCS solutions, customized through several rounds of professional design discussions to optimize system efficiency and performance.
This project, the largest of its kind in Lishui City, Zhejiang, is the first to combine semi-solid-state batteries with an advanced grid-side BESS PCS solution.
Pilot Energy deployed an innovative architecture by integrating four high-performance 1.25MW energy storage converters into each 5MW module. These converters are connected in parallel to a 5,000kVA transformer, achieving a stable 35kV AC grid output, and ensuring seamless, high-efficiency energy delivery.
Our advanced PCS technology not only maximized energy conversion efficiency but also ensured excellent grid compatibility and high system flexibility, receiving high praise from the project stakeholders.
One of the standout features of this project is the intelligent management system enabled by parallel-connected BESS PCS units. By synchronizing four converters and incorporating the unique charging and discharging characteristics of semi-solid-state batteries, the system can automatically adjust operational strategies.
