Multi-Standard Compatibility, High Reliability, Green Energy First | Pilot Technology Powers Greener Mobility in South America

Pilot Technology’s EV charging network continues to expand across global markets. In South America, we have established a growing presence in multiple countries, supporting the development of charging infrastructure and building long-term partnerships with local customers and operators. What we bring to the region goes beyond EV chargers. It is a comprehensive charging solution designed to accommodate South America’s diverse charging standards, support large-scale electric bus operations, and work seamlessly with renewable energy.

01

A “Universal Interface” for South America’s Diverse EV Charging Market

South America’s EV charging landscape is evolving rapidly, while charging standards remain highly diverse. In some countries, connector standards have yet to be fully unified. Meanwhile, electric vehicles imported from different regions may use European, Chinese, North American, or Japanese charging standards. For charging operators, one of the biggest concerns is not whether EVs will come to charge, but whether the infrastructure installed today will still be compatible with the next generation of vehicles entering the market. Pilot Technology addresses this challenge with strong multi-standard compatibility. A single dual-connector chargingunit can be configured to support two different standards simultaneously—for example:
  • CCS2 for European-standard vehicles
  • CCS1 for North American-standard vehicles
  • GB/T for Chinese-standard vehicles
For split-type charging systems, customized configurations can currently support up to eight charging standards, giving operators greater flexibility when serving mixed vehicle fleets. Rather than betting on a single charging standard, Pilot provides a unified compatibility platform for South America’s fragmented charging market. This means every charging station can be better prepared for increasingly diverse vehicle fleets while helping operators avoid repeated investment caused by changing or uncertain charging standards. With extensive experience in the South American market, Pilot understands how local charging standards continue to evolve—and designs infrastructure with sufficient flexibility for future expansion.

Supporting Large-Scale Electric Bus Charging Hubs

South America has become one of the world’s leading regions for electric bus deployment. In Santiago, Chile, more than 60% of the city’s bus fleet has already been electrified. In Bogotá, Colombia, hundreds of electric buses operate across major urban routes, while an increasing number of cities are incorporating public transport electrification into their long-term mobility plans. This means that one of the region’s most important charging requirements is not scattered low-power charging for passenger vehicles. Instead, cities increasingly need centralized, high-power and highly reliable charging infrastructure for electric bus fleets. Pilot Technology’s charging power cabinet + split-type DC charging dispenser solution is designed precisely for these applications. A megawatt-scale power pool can support the centralized charging requirements of large electric bus fleets, while intelligent dynamic power allocation adjusts output according to real-time demand. This enables multiple buses to charge simultaneously during peak operating periods while helping reduce sudden power demand on the local grid. Split-type charging dispensers can be flexibly deployed according to different parking layouts, while centralized power architecture helps:
  • Reduce equipment footprint
  • Simplify site construction
  • Improve power utilization
  • Support simultaneous high-power charging
  • Accelerate charging station deployment
  • Improve long-term operational efficiency
With a complete product portfolio ranging from 3.5 kW to 1,920 kW, Pilot Technology provides full-power-range charging solutions for applications ranging from individual EV charging to large-scale electric bus depots. Our practical project experience in South America also gives us a deeper understanding of the reliability requirements of bus charging facilities. Combined with localized service capabilities, Pilot helps operators maintain stable and reliable charging operations over the long term.

Green Energy Integration: Turning Clean Electricity into Cleaner Mobility

South America has one of the cleanest electricity mixes in the world. In Brazil, more than 80% of electricity is generated from renewable sources, with hydropower playing a dominant role. Uruguay has achieved an electricity system powered almost entirely by renewable energy, while EV adoption continues to increase. In this region, EV charging is already inherently low-carbon. Pilot Technology aims to take that environmental advantage even further. Our EV charging solutions support:
  • Solar PV integration
  • Dynamic load balancing
  • Smart scheduled charging
  • Energy storage integration
  • Peak shaving and valley filling
  • Renewable energy priority operation
By coordinating EV charging infrastructure with on-site Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), charging stations can prioritize the use of renewable electricity while optimizing energy consumption. Energy can be stored during periods of lower electricity prices or lower site demand and discharged during peak periods. This helps operators reduce electricity costs while increasing the proportion of renewable energy used for vehicle charging. For South American power systems with a high share of hydropower and other renewable resources, this integrated approach can also help charging sites better manage fluctuations and improve overall energy self-sufficiency. The result is a smarter energy ecosystem in which more clean electricity is efficiently delivered directly to electric vehicles. Pilot Technology is not simply exporting charging equipment to South America. We are adapting our technologies to the region’s energy structure so that EV charging infrastructure becomes a natural part of South America’s broader transition toward cleaner energy and transportation.

Building a Reliable Foundation for South America’s Green Mobility Future

From a multi-standard “universal interface” designed for diverse vehicle fleets, to megawatt-scale electric bus charging solutions, and intelligent charging networks integrated with renewable energy and energy storage, Pilot Technology is combining global experience with deep local engagement to build a reliable charging foundation for South America’s green transportation future. We are not here for the short term. We are here to grow together with our partners. Pilot Technology looks forward to working with customers and partners across South America to: Help electric buses travel farther. Make renewable-powered mobility more reliable. And turn every charging session into another step toward a sustainable future. Pilot Technology — Powering Smarter, Greener Mobility.
